Men's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men’s soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Avila University on Tuesday night at Peoples Bank Field.
OU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead on the Eagles. Phillip Nelson scored his first collegiate goal at the 30:11 minute mark. Ottawa had a 9-7 edge in shots.
In the second half the Eagles tied up the game 1-1 at the 66th minute mark on a goal by Josh Grimes. OU was not able to break the 1-1 tie and the game went into overtime. The Braves had a 4-1 lead in shots against the Eagles and had their chances to pick up the win. Avila though had two team saves in the first overtime period that prevented OU from taking the victory. With just a little more than a minute left in the second overtime period AU’s Dustin Deisher scored, giving the Eagles a 2-1 victory over OU.
Both teams ended up with 22 shots apiece and six shots on goal. OU goalkeeper Derick Allen played 99:20 minutes between the pipes and came up with four saves. Avila had a 26-19 lead in fouls and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next for the Braves (1-1-1) is a road trip to Bethany, Okla. to play Southwestern Christian University on Thursday, Sept. 9th. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
