Lady Braves Shutout William Penn, 4-0

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Lady Braves used three goals in the first half to take a 4-0 victory over William Penn University (0-0-4) on Saturday night at Peoples Bank Field. It is OU’s second straight shutout. The Lady Braves now have a 1-0-0 record versus WPU since this contest was the first meeting between the two teams. 

It only took seven minutes into the first half for the Lady Braves to take the lead. Whitney Bowen scored the first goal of the game off of a pass from Theresa Crane. OU continued to pressure the William Penn defense and at the 24 minute mark took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Amanda Talbott. She scored on a pass from Nicole Radcliffe. Two minutes later Radcliffe gave OU a 3-0 lead when a shot from Bowen came off of the cross bar and Radcliffe was able to put the ball past the WPU goalkeeper. The Lady Braves outshot the Lady Statesmen 17-5. 

The second half was scoreless until the final 30 seconds when Talbott scored off a pass from Crane and Bowen. For the half OU had a 9-7 edge in shots on the Lady Statesmen. OU goalkeepers Lauren Peil and Nichole Bishop combined for the shutout. 

Up next for the Lady Braves (2-0-0) is a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 7th versus Avila University at Peoples Bank Field. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
