OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University’s women’s soccer program has announced the signing of Elizabeth Tapia for the 2010-2011 season. She is from Perris, Calif. and is a transfer from San Bernardino Valley College. Tapia attended Nuevo Nuview Early College High School.
Tapia, a midfielder, earned two letters in soccer. While playing women's soccer for SBVC, Tapia was named honorable mention All-Foothill Conference in 2009. She scored eight goals with four assists and finished tied for third on the team in total points with 20. This put her in the top tier of players in California. As a freshman, during the 2008 season, she played for Mt. San Jacinto College where she led the team in goals with seven. Tapia was selected to play for the Southern California team in the 2009 Sophomore Showcase All-Star game at the soccer state championships at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
The 2009 season was notable because it was SBVC's first undefeated regular season in Women’s Soccer in team history with a 17-0-4 record. The team was also undefeated and untied at home with a perfect 13-0-0 record. In addition, the sixth ranked SBVC Women’s Soccer team won its second straight Foothill Conference title another first for the team, who in 2008 won its first Conference title ever.
“To pick up a player of this caliber so late is really amazing,” said OU head coach Craig Shaw. “She will come in and contribute straight away and I thank her and Coach Hauge for all their efforts in making this happen!”
Tapia is the daughter of Maria and Javier Luna and plans to major in human services.
