OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University’s men’s basketball program has announced the signing of Taylor Smith for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. He is from Soldier, Kan. and attends Holton High School.

Smith, a 6’4” forward, earned four letters in basketball, two in football and one in both track and baseball for the Wildcats. He helped lead Holton High School to the state basketball tournament for the first time in 20 years during the 2009-10 season. Smith helped the Wildcats to a Big 7 League championship for the first time in 13 years during his senior season. He was selected to play in the Highland All-Star Game. Smith was a two-time all-league and all-area selection and was named honorable mention 4A Kansas All-State by both the Topeka Capital Journal and the Wichita Eagle. He averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game his senior season. His older brothers Justin and Travis Smith both played basketball for the Braves.

“Taylor is a physically strong frontline player that will join an already strong freshman class. He can face up to score as well as score with is back to the basket,” said OU head coach Andy Carrier. “He is following in the footsteps of older brothers Justin and Travis who were both very good players in our program. We are very pleased Taylor has also chosen OU.”

Smith is the son of Garry and Keri Smith and plans to major in education.
