OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University’s women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Shannon Carlin for the 2010-2011 season. She is from Tonganoxie, Kan. and is a transfer from Kansas City Kansas Community College. Carlin attended Tonganoxie High School.

“I’m extremely excited that Shannon has decided to continue her education and basketball career at OU,” said OU head coach Bruce Tate. “It’s good to finally she her officially in the black and gold. She was a player that I recruited out of high school and kept tabs on the past two seasons. I felt we had a solid chance at her coming out of KCK.”

Carlin, a 5’10” guard, lettered two years in basketball for the Blue Devils. She averaged 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and shot 73 percent from the free throw line. At Tonganoxie High School, Carlin lettered four years in basketball, three in volleyball, two in softball and one in track. She was a Topeka Capital Journal 4A All-State honorable mention pick, a Lawrence Journal World first team All-Area selection and was named to the Wichita Eagle 4A All-State honorable mention team. Carlin was a two-time first team All-KVL selection and was named tournament mvp. In her senior season she helped lead the Chieftains to an undefeated KVL Championship, a sub-state championship and a fourth place finish at state. On the volleyball court, Carlin helped THS to a sub-state championship and a third place finish in state during the 2007 season and to two sub-state runner-ups in 2006 and 2005. In softball, she helped Tonganoxie High to a league title and a sub-state championship during the 2008 season. She earned honorable mention all-league honors.

“Shannon is a very athletic ball player and will provide solid guard play on both ends of the floor. She is very long and athletic guard that can get out in the open floor and do some nice things in our system,” said Tate. “Her ability to get to the paint and mid range game will be a huge asset to our perimeter play. Shannon will make a huge impact to our team and will be fun to coach the next two seasons. She is a solid character kid, with a great personality and will be a great addition to our team and campus community.”

Carlin is the daughter of Jeff and Margaret Carlin and plans to major in communications.
