Softball Signs Olathe East's Darin Lewis

OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University’s softball program has announced the signing of Darin Lewis to a letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year. She is from Olathe, Kan. and attends Olathe East High School.

As a junior at Olathe East, Lewis pitched the Hawks to the Regional Championship and a 3rd place finish in the KSHAA 6A State Tournament. She posted a 12-2 record and was selected to the All-Olathe Team, earned second team All-Sunflower League and was named second team All-Johnson County. Lewis is a 2010 NAIA Champions of Character Honoree.

In the fall of 2009 she pitched for the Diamond Devils Black. Lewis was undefeated against 18U Gold competition beating such national powerhouses as the Texas Impact Gold and California Sorcerers with a cumulative 1.10 ERA. At the plate, Lewis had a batting average of .409, an on base percentage of .490 and a slugging percentage of .568 in 53 plate appearances with one home run.

Lewis was an ace on the pitching staff of the Olathe Flash Softball Club for 9 years. With the FLASH, she played in two ASA Northern National Championship games and one AFA National Championship game, winning the national title in 2007 where she was selected to the ASA All Tournament Team. She also pitched her FLASH team to second place finishes at the 2005 ASA National Tournament and the 2003 AFA National Championship. She was selected MVP at the 2009 USSSA State Tournament.

At Olathe East Darin has earned the Business Endorsement and Leadership Endorsement. She is a member of the Business Men and Women’s Club and the Future Teachers Organization.

“Darin comes from one of the best programs in Kansas and will bring that winning way to the mound for us,” said OU head coach Jay Kahnt. “She pitched her team to the state runner-up last season and we are excited that she is joining our program. Darin will add some great depth to our pitching rotation. She is a great addition to the school and our program.”

Lewis is the daughter of Joe and Debbie Lewis and plans to major in business administration.
