OTTAWA, Kan. - Ottawa University’s football program has announced the signing of Landon Helzer to a letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year. He is from North Richland Hills, Texas and attends Birdville High School.

Helzer, a safety, earned two letters in football and one in track for the Hawks. He helped lead Birdville High School to the Texas High School State Playoffs twice and to the district title game in 2009. In the district championship game, Helzer played against Rivals.com “Sophomore of the Nation”. He tallied six tackles for loss and one pass deflection. Helzer earned All-District 6-4A honors as a safety his senior season. He was second on the team in tackles with 90 and did not give up a touchdown pass or a pass over 20 yards.

Helzer is the son of Gary and Phyllis Helzer and plans to major in english.
