Men's Hoops Downed by Tabor

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Braves fell on the road Thursday night to Tabor College, 68-51 in Tabor Gymnasium. 

The Bluejays opened the contest on a 10-4 run on the Braves. Ottawa closed the gap and was within one point, 11-10 with 13:40 remaining in the half. Tabor went on its second run of the game, this time, 11-4, and pushed its lead to eight points, 22-14. The Braves clawed their way back and after a bucket by Chris Tate and a three by Chase Dippel, OU was down by three, 22-19 with 6:31 on the clock. The Braves continued to stay close with the Bluejays and two Corey Smith free throws OU was within four, 29-25 with 3:29 on the clock. Tabor closed out the game by scoring six of the last eight points and taking a seven point lead at the half, 35-27. 

Isaac Johnston opened the second half scoring for OU with a three. After a Bluejay field goal Corey Smith hit and three and OU was now down by five, 38-33 with 18:13 left in regulation. Tabor scored the next four points and increased its lead to nine, 42-33. Tate, Smith and Sloan combined to score the Braves next five points and OU was able cut the TC lead to six, 44-38. Tabor expanded its lead and with 9:18 on the clock, the Bluejays were up by 11, 55-44. Ottawa wasn’t able to get any closer as the Bluejays were able to maintain its double digit lead throughout the second half, taking the contest, 68-51 

OU was led in scoring by Chris Tate with 15 points on 5-9 shooting. He earned his third double-double of the season with his 11 rebounds. Smith was the other Brave in double figures. He had four rebounds. 

Up next for OU (5-18, 3-10) is a home game on Saturday, Feb. 6th in Wilson Field House versus Bethany College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
