OTTAWA, Kan. - The Braves stayed kept their perfect 9-0 record with a 41-14 victory over Bethany College on Saturday afternoon at Peoples Bank Field. The Braves have clinched a share of the KCAC title with the victory. Ottawa ends the 2009 regular season with a perfect home record for the second straight season. OU had two records fall in the game, Corey Schultz broke the single season receiving yards (1,083) record and now has 1,158 receiving yards on the season. Clarence Anderson went over the 1,000 yard receiving mark in the game and now has 1,124 yards and 14 touchdown receptions on the season. Anderson is only two touchdown receptions away from breaking the school record of 16 held by Kim Hendrix (1978) and Richard Booth (1965). Ethan Haller broke the single season touchdown passing record and now has 34 on the season. The old record was 31 that was held by Eddie Buzzell (1965) and Jay Alexander (1999).
OU took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter at the 6:25 mark when Haller's pass found Schultz for the five yard touchdown. Casey Wieder's extra point was good.
The Braves scored again, this time just three minutes into the second quarter on a 45 yard touchdown pass from Haller to Anderson and after the Wieder exra point OU was up 14-0. Ottawa scored again at the 4:33 mark on a 37 yard field goal by Wieder giving OU a 17-0 lead. The Braves scored three more points on a career long 46 yard field goal by Wieder, giving OU a 20-0 lead at the half.
After OU's defense forced Bethany to a three and out the Braves scored their third touchdown of the game just two and a half minutes into the third quarter. Haller found Anderson once again, this time for a 58 yard touchdown pass and after Wieder's kick OU was up 27-0.
Ottawa scored again in the third quarter, this time on the ground with Andy Otto's 59 yard touchdown run. Wieder was again good on the extra point and OU was up 34-0.
The Swedes scored 14 straight points off of a Steven Baker touchdown pass to Sean Johnson and a recovery in the endzone off of a bad snap, cutting OU's lead to 20, 34-14.
The Braves scored one more when Fielding Brenner intercepted BC quarterback Baker at the BC 36 and ran the ball back for the touchdown. After the Wieder extra point OU had wrapped up the game 41-14.
OU's defense was led by Brenner with eight tackles, four solo and four assisted. He had one interception and one pass breakup. Casey Calhoun had seven tackles and Anthony Giambona snared OU's other interception.
On offense, Haller was 22-32 for 352 yards and three touchdowns. This gives him a season total of 3,664 yards through the air. Schultz had eight receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown, Anderson had six receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Otto had five receptions for 62 yards. On the ground Otto rushed for over 100 yards with 145 on 18 attempts.
Up next for the Braves (9-0, 8-0) is a road trip to Friends University for the final game of the 2009 regular season. OU will travel to Wichita, Kan. on Saturday, Nov. 14th to play the Falcons. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
