Women's Hoops Fall to #14 Columbia

OTTAWA, Kan. –
The Lady Braves fell 77-60 to no. 14 ranked Columbia College Lady Cougars on Tuesday night in Wilson Field House. Ottawa is now 0-2 all-time versus the NAIA Division I team. 

The Lady Braves had the lead for most of the first half versus the no. 14th ranked Lady Cougars. Displaying some of their best shooting of the young season the Lady Braves built a 10 point lead to open the game 12-2 at the 14:15. The Cougars though came roaring back and tied the game at 20 all with 8:19 left in the half. Columbia then took a six point lead, 26-20 at the 6:58 mark. Two minutes later though the Lady Braves tied the game at 26 all on a three point field goal by Maggie Hasenkamp. OU extended its lead to six points, 32-26 on a field goal by Lauren Buckles. But the Cougars were able to cut into OU’s lead and tied the game with eight seconds left to send the game into the half tied 34-34. 

Columbia opened the second half on a 7-2 run and took a 41-36 lead on the Lady Braves. Ottawa tied the game at 43 all off of a field goal by Stacy Post at the 16:37 mark. This time though when the Cougars retook the lead at the 15:25 mark 45-43 they never let it go. Columbia held the lead for the rest of the contest, defeating OU 77-60. 

Ottawa shot 36.7 percent from the floor, 18-49 but was 18-29 from the free throw line (62.1 percent). Columbia College was 32-62 for 51.6 percent and forced 25 Lady Brave turnovers. The Lady Cougars outscored OU in the paint 42-18 and had a 31-19 lead in points off of turnovers. 

The Lady Braves were led in scoring by Misty Stone with 18 points and five rebounds. Mallory Mueller had 11 points on 3-6 shooting and three assists. 

Up next for the Lady Braves is a trip to Lawrence, Kan. to play no. 25 ranked Haskell Indian Nations University on Thursday, Nov. 19th. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
