Seven Lady Braves Earn All-KCAC Honors

WICHITA, Kan. – The 2008 Softball All-KCAC Teams have been selected the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon. OU (31-17, 11-5), placed seven players on the All-KCAC teams. Senior Sharee Joyner, junior Josie Hildebrand and sophomore Ashley Mundy were first team selections. Seniors, Kerry Higbie, Pam Johnston and Jamie Miller were second team selections and freshman Emily Fuerst earned honorable mention honors.
Joyner, a catcher/outfielder from Dell City, Okla., has a .401 batting average with 57 hits in 142 at bats. She has 46 runs driven in and has scored 31 runs. Joyner was twice this season a single short of batting for the cycle. She had a slugging percentage of .634 and an on base percentage of .430. Joyner is a repeat first team selection from a year ago.
Hildebrand, a catcher/infielder from Tuttle, Okla., leads OU with a .432 batting average and 48 RBI. Her batting average tops the OU record books for single season batting average. In 146 at bats she totaled 63 hits, scored 51 runs and belted a team leading five homeruns. Hildebrand has a slugging percentage of .664 and an on base percentage of .494.
Mundy, an infielder from Scranton, Kan. is a repeat selection for OU. She earned second team honors last season. Mundy is hitting .392 with 62 hits in 158 at bats. She has driven in 44 runs and scored 47. Mundy is 22-24 in stolen base attempts and has an on base percentage of .412 and a slugging percentage of .633. She earned KCAC and Region IV Player of the Week honors once this season.
Higbie, an infielder from Rantoul, Kan. is a first time selection. She is leading the Lady Braves in walks with 20 and is hitting .353 with 42 hits in 119 at bats. Higbie has an on base percentage of .443 and a slugging percentage of .471. She has earned KCAC and Region IV Player of the Week honors once this season.
Johnston, a pitcher from Fontana, Kan., is a repeat All-KCAC selection. She has a 13-8 record with a 3.04 ERA. Johnston appeared in 25 games this past season, starting 23 of them. She has pitched in 136 innings, striking out 63. Opponents have a .259 batting average against Johnston. She has twice been selected KCAC Pitcher of the Week and has earned Region IV Pitcher of the Week once this past season.
Miller, an outfielder from Ottawa, Kan., is a repeat All-KCAC selection. She leads the Lady Braves in stolen bases with 25, which ties a school record. Her career total of 50 stolen bases sets a new school record. Miller is batting .424 with 73 hits in 172 at bats. She has an on base percentage of .447 and has scored 51 runs.
Fuerst, an infielder from Harrisonville, Mo., is a first time selection. She is hitting .328 with 19 hits in 58 at bats. Fuerst has an on base percentage of .394 and a slugging percentage of .431. She has earned KCAC Player of the Week once this season.
The Lady Braves finished fourth in the KCAC and third in the KCAC Softball Tournament that took place Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd. OU will learn by Tuesday if the Lady Braves have earned a place in the Region IV Tournament that is being hosted by McPherson College in McPherson, Kan.
