2016-17 Women's Basketball Team Awards
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: KAYLEE WILLIAMS
Awarded to the defensive player who consistently, in both games and practice, left everything she had on the floor. A player whose intensity on defense ignited the team. The most aggressive player on the team who took pride in every defensive match-up assigned and worked just as hard on defense as on offense (hopefully harder). Was often asked to guard the opposing team’s top offensive threat.
MOST INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER: STALEE DIEHL
Awarded to the player whose strength of spirit, attitude and beliefs most positively and most consistently impacted and lifted the team.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: JENNA KRAMER
Awarded to the player who came into the program and in her first year made the most noticeable impact and contribution to the team. (Can be a freshman or transfer).
SUPER SUB AWARD: KATLYN HUGHES
Awarded to the player who most consistently provided a spark off the bench. It is possible for this player to have been a part-time starter, but not a full-time starter.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: KATLYN HUGHES
Awarded to the player who best displayed improvement from last season to this season or from the beginning to the end of this season.
BEST TEAM PLAYER: LESLIE SPEER and KELSEY HENDRICKS
Awarded to the player who best exemplifies unselfishness, team before self, cohesiveness, role acceptance, coachability, commitment, and an attitude of “caring first and foremost about the team’s success and not their own.”Displays the core values of the Champions of Character initiative Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.
