LAWRENCE, Kan. – The OU men's golf team won its opening tournament of the fall season, winning the Ottawa Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Eagle Bend Golf Course. The Braves shot a two round total of 599, 296 in round one and 303 in round two. OU won the tournament by four strokes over Kansas City Kansas Community College (603). The Brave "B" Team finished 11th in the tournament, shooting a two round score of 663 (333, 330).
"I am very pleased with our men's team winning our home tournament for the first time in long time," said OU head men's golf coach Wendell Smith. "The best part is we know we left several shots out there and have the potential to play significantly better."
OU Brave Doug Radley won the event. The junior finished the two round tournament with a score of 143, shooting a 71 in round one and a 72 in round two. "Doug Radley winning the individual medalist honors and tying our school record at our home tournament was big time! Doug's 143 puts him in the top five individual performances at out invitational," said Smith.
Tying for fourth for the Braves was Jordan Bulcock. He finished with a 76 in round one and a 74 in round two (150). JT Engelbart finished 11th, shooting a two round total of 153 (73, 80). Jacob Becker tied for 16th. He shot a 79 in round one and a 77 in round two (156). Michael Kinkelaar tied for 28th for the Braves, finishing with a two round total of 158 (76, 82). "Jake Becker had his best two round tournament score," said Smith. "JT and Jordan played very well in their first collegiate tournament."
On the "B" Team, Tanner Pauls tied for 16th. He shot a 156 with a 76 in round one and an 80 in round two. Austin Levin tied for 28th, finishing with an 83 and a 75 (158). Andrew Skinner shots a two round total of 174 (83, 91) to tie for 52nd. Brendyn Eigenman tied for 54th, shooting a 91 in round one and an 84 in round two (175).
The Braves are back on the golf course on Monday, Sept. 16 when they travel to Springfield, Mo. to compete in the Evangel Tournament at the Rivercut Golf Course.
