CLERMONT, Fla. – The OU softball team fell short to no. 3 and second seeded Columbia College on Saturday afternoon, 2-1, in eight innings at Legends Way Ball Fields at the NAIA Softball World Series.
Columbia took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning, 1-0. The Braves though would tie the game in the top of the fourth. Kori Lacey reached first on a Cougar miscue. She then stole second and moved on to third on a wild throw to give OU a runner in scoring position. Elisa Valenzula would answer the call, sending a sacrifice fly to center and scoring Lacey to tie the game at 1-1.
The score was still 1-1 after seven innings of play, sending the contest into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, the Braves would get runners at second and third. The OU offense was not able score those two runs. In the bottom of the eighth, the Cougars were able to take the victory. Columbia's Carly Spalding hit a single and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Molly Carter put the ball into play and Spalding was able to score from second on a Brave miscue to give CC the 2-1 victory.
