OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa University student-athletes Laura Yancey, Michael Jensen, and Bryanna Music are set to represent the Braves at the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Golf Shores, Ala.
Yancey, a sophomore from Weir, Kan., will be competing in her second straight national championships in the javelin. She finished 14th last year as a freshman with a throw of 129-07.75. Yancey enters the national meet with the eighth best throw in the NAIA, 138-03. She finished third at the beginning of the May at the KCAC Championships in the javelin, earning All-KCAC with a toss of 130-07. She will throw on Thursday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m.
Jensen, a junior from Ottawa, Kan., is making his first appearance at the national meet in the shot put. He has the 21st best throw in the shot put in the NAIA, 51-07. He hit that mark with his second place finish at the KCAC Championships, earning All-KCAC honors. Jensen will compete in the shot put on Saturday, May 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Music, a junior from Delta, Colo., qualified for the national meet in both the hammer throw and the shot put for the third straight season. She was an NAIA All-American in indoor this past season in the weight throw, finishing fourth with a toss of 59-03. Music earned All-KCAC honors this past outdoor season and is the school record holder in both the hammer, the shot put, and the discus. She has the ninth best throw in the hammer (173-01) and 11th in the shot put (45-08). Music will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 25 at 10:00 a.m. and the shot put on Friday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m.
