OTTAWA, Kan. – The OU women's basketball team fell in overtime, 82-74, on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Sports Center.
Saint Mary took the early 5-0 lead over the Braves to open the game. The Spires increased their lead to double digits, 18-7, with 4:35 left in the quarter. USM continued to hold their double digit lead and at the end of the quarter, USM's lead was 24-12.
The Braves cut into the deficit in the second quarter. A 3-pt field goal by Katlyn Hughes put the Braves within 30-23 with 4:31 left in the half. In the final four minutes the OU defense picked up the intensity and at the end of the half, OU trailed 38-32.
OU scored the first seven points of the third quarter, taking a 39-38 lead on a Jenna Kramer 3-pt field goal. USM though retook the lead and with 6:47 on the clock, the Braves trailed 46-42. The Braves though again finished the quarter strong, outscoring USM 8-4, tying the game at 50 all headed into the fourth.
In the fourth the Braves would take the two point lead, 60-58, on a basket by Madi Stewart. The Braves continued to hold its lead, increasing it to 66-61 with 1:47 left in regulation on a Kaylee Williams basket. That would be the final points OU would score in the last few minutes of regulation. USM finished on a 5-0 run, sending the game into overtime tied 66-66.
In the overtime period, USM went to the free throw 11 times to the Braves two, hitting seven free throws. The Spires jumped out to a 77-68 lead over the Braves. OU was not able to recover, falling 82-74 to Saint Mary.

The Braves shot 44.8 percent from the floor, 31.6 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. OU had four players in double figures, led by Ashley Romig's 19 points. She also pulled down eight rebounds and had three blocks. Madi Stewart scored 16 points and had eight rebounds. Kaylee Williams finished with 13 points and Jessica King came off of the bench to score 12.
